Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I develop a personal plan to create a unique process tailored to each students specific needs.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been tutoring students in reading for nearly twenty years. I have a natural passion for reading, learning and teaching. I have a Bachelor's degree and am currently pursuing my Associates in Psychology.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
On average, my price is $25 per hour, but the price fluctuates up and down, depending on subject and student's individual needs and goals. Also, I don't believe in being paid for doing nothing so, if the students goal is not reached, after following my guidance, I refund all payments.
How did you get started teaching?
I commissioned my first paid tutoring job when I was in second grade, helping older kids (fourth graders mostly) improve their reading skills, teaching them essential skills, resulting in their grades going from failing to passing with high B and A averages. I have had a passion for teaching reading and a variety other subjects, skills and techniques (writing, reading, basic math, handwriting, calligraphy, critical thinking, mediatation, vocabulary, etc) ever since. I enjoy helping others acheive the sense of accomplishment that comes from mastering a subject you are struggling with. I love passing my love for learning on to my students.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with kids from all different economical and ethnic backgrounds with a wide range of learning abilities. I'm a flexible tutor who adjusts my teaching style to best suite each of my students.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Recently, a friend from high school posted on social media that their child was struggling with reading and she was seeking an affordable tutor. I reached out her and offered her my help. I currently meet with Aisha for 40 minutes twice a week and it has been to my complete pleasure to watch the pride on her face every time she reports to me what grade she has made on her most recent test and her ever-rising class average (45 the day of our first session and three weeks later it is up to an 81).
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would tell a student to first ask them self what their goals are, what's the reason in hiring a tutor. I would also suggest that the student considers any special or specific learning traits they have and to make sure they ask all potential tutors about their experience with other students with similar traits.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Students should ask themselves about any specific learning disabilities or traits that would benefit the teacher of knowing about prior to their first session. Also to take note of anything concerning the way they learn best, and anything that affects, negatively or positively, if they are aware of any.
