What is your typical process for working with a new student?
For students with a stronger foundation in math, I typically identify miunderstandings of material being covered in class, modeling solutions and re-teaching lessons when necessary to reinforce student understanding. When working with students experiencing greater difficulty or with a history of difficulty learning Math, I like to determine the skills and concepts that are most troubling for the student, and target those weaknesses to increase understanding and student performance in addition to reviewing and addressing questions regarding content taught in class each week.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Fifteen years of classroom experience teaching 1st, 4th , 6-8th grade math ad well as Algebra 1 and Geomoetry ; Texas Certified Math Teacher, grades 1-8.

How did you get started teaching?
After becoming a mother, I changed majors from accounting to education. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies with an emphasis in Mathematics all because my childhood next door neighbor, mentor and fishing buddy was a math teacher and taught me to love it!
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with many different types of students including at-risk, ESL, gifted and learning disabled.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Choose a tutor that loves helping students learn and that can teach to your unique way of learning.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What specific skills and concepts are giving me the most problem?
If I check my work on the problems I miss, do I get the correct answer?
