Accounting & Math Tutoring
About
I work with students of all ages (elementary to college).
I work for Ernst & Young, one of the world's largest accounting firms, which allows me to provide real life examples (simplified for younger students) that foster a deep understanding of the WHY behind an accounting / math concept, and therefore allows you to connect the dots between a foreign learning concept to its fundamental purpose and rationale, which studies show is more effective than memorization. In my work at Ernst & Young, I am challenged everyday in applying accounting guidance and standards to real-life business transactions, the equivalent of applying a math concept to a textbook example, and so I know how valuable it is to understand the economic substance of what learning concept intends to represent for successful learning development and application.
In studying for my 4 CPA exams, I loved to come up with rhymes, songs, and pneumonics to help me learn and keep learning fun, and will incorporate this strategy into our tutoring session to make sure that the session is enjoyable.
I have a Master's Degree in Accounting from the University of Texas at Austin. I am a licensed CPA in Texas, and have worked at Ernst & Young for over 4 years. I have been tutoring since I was in graduate school at UT beginning in 2014.
There is nothing I love more than when I see others have the "AHA" moment after something clicks. I enjoy seeing progression and development in others, and being able to relate to the frustrations turned into triumphs.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First, I will discuss with the student what his/her goals are, and develop with the student a plan to achieve these goals by ensuring that the goals are SMART (Specific, Measureable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-based). We can discuss how we will measure performance/progress (usually through homework and test grades), and over what time-frame we would like to see progress.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Througout middle school and high school, I was in honors math classes and received A's. I have Bachelor's degrees in Accounting and Finance, and have a Master's in Accounting.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Generally, for students whose home I am traveling to, lessons are priced at $50/hour, or $40/hour for two or more prepaid sessions. After completing the first session, the student can decide whether he/she would like to continue to receive the pre-paid rate.
For students seeking longer-term lessons: We can discuss more flexible session pricing given pre-paid sessions.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching in college after I found myself teaching materials to all of my friends and classmates.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students of all ages, ranging from elementary to college level. My grandmother was a teacher and intilled in me the importance of patience and fun in learning, which has allowed me to work with students of all ages and a variety of material complexity.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would advise that the student discuss with the teacher/tutor what the goals are and making a plan on how the goals will be achieved and progress will be measured. This will hold the student accountable and provide a framework that will easily reveal whether the student is progressing toward his/her goals. If the student is not progressing toward his/her goals, it would be appropriate to re-visit what are the strengths and weaknesses contributing to student's performance.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
It's important for students to have a good relationshp with the teacher/tutor in an environment that nutures the student's learning style, so I would recommend that the student reflect on what learning style best suits him/her.
