About
I have been teaching or tutoring on and off for the past 15 years including: AP physics, University Physics I, and tutoring in precalculus through partial differential equations. I am passionate about helping students contextualize their knowledge to finally have that lightbulb moment. For STEM in particular, worked examples are key and the best way to learn is to ask "what if" questions to extend the examples (i.e. what if there was another force acting in a different direction? or what if this term was a function and not a constant?). I enjoy a collaborative experience where the student and I build a thought process and then use that to get at the answer. Depending on level, like any language, some rote memorization may be necessary but I try to keep that at a minimum.
As for me, I have a BS and MS in physics, a MBA, and am currently pursuing my PhD in Economics, for which I am completing the Graduate Teaching Certificate which instructs in pedagogy and instructional methods. In my previous life, I have worked as a program and product manager at Amazon developing various internal workforce staffing tools and as an engineer at Raytheon.
