Leander Tutoring
About
I am a teacher at Wiley Middle School and will begin my 14th year there this school year. I am certified to teach Math, LA, Science, and Social Studies for grades 4-8. I have taught 6th and 7th grade Math. I also have Special Education certification and am a part of the Wiley Special Education department. I am the liason between our department and the Wiley 6th grade Math department, and have developed curriculum and testing for a wide range of students. Both at school and privately, I have a great deal of experience tutoring individual students.
I spend most of my time working with struggling students. To see them succeed, and gain in confidence, is very rewarding.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When working with a new student, I talk to the parent to see where the need is. I find out from the parent and student where they are successful as well as struggling. I know where the "roadblocks" typically are and have multiple ways to deal with them. Unless there is something unique to a teacher, I am generally familiar with the "lingo" that takes place in the classroom. Examples would be PEMDAS, for order of operations, and KCF (keep change flip) for dividing fractions.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a BBA-Marketing from Texas State. I received my teacher certifications in 2006. I am certified to teach Math, LA, Science, and Social Studies grades 4-8. I also have Special Education Certification K-12. I have been a teacher at Wiley Middle School for the past 13 years. I am an Inclusion Teacher in the Special Education department and have co-taught all the core subjects. Daily, most of my time is spent working with students, individually and small group, who are struggling.
