I have been tutoring since my junior year of high school. My sophomore year of college I got special tutor training. It was in 2019 that I decided to venture out on my own and make a business of it. I have had 6 students I have worked with within the past two years, ranging from 5th-11th grade. In May of 2021 I will be graduating with my BA in Mathmatics as well as two minors Education and Religions. I also graduated in 2018 with an AS or General Science. I specialize in tutoring math, but I am also able to assist in other subjects. Every student I have helped has brought their grade up. I am willing to help students with their homework, although I would much rather help my students understand the information so they can do the homework on their own and be able to understand it. This helps improve test scores and makes a student more confident in the information. I am willing to accommodate to whatever style of learning works best for the student. I want to find the best way to help you!
I really enjoy watching my students reach goals that they set for themselves. I really encourage students to start off with smaller more possible goals that will push them closer to reaching their ultimate goal. I have worked with a wide range to student abilities and take pride in being able to find ways to best help my students. I am not afraid to to share with my students when I do not fully understand something, but then I show them how we can figure it out together. I believe that students should know that no one fully knows everything and that's okay, we just find a way around it or through it and come out better on the other side.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
In the first time that we meet I like to get to know a little bit about the student and their past dealings with the class they need help in. I like to know what they think their weakness is and where they think they need more help. I like to know what they think will help them most. Then we talk about what program or textbook they are working with so that I can know what methods they are being taught. Then we will jump right in on what they are learning and adjust from time to time and see what we can do to better help them. I also like to have students set an overall goal for the time I am helping them and then we set a smaller more quickly achievable goal to help reach the overall goal.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I was trained to tutor through TRiO in growth mindset over fixed mindset. I will be graduating in May from Southern Adventist University with a BA in Mathematics and two minors in Education and Religion. I graduated from Bay de Noc Community College in 2018 with an AS in General Science.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
As of right being that I have not graduated I charge $25 an hour per student. Once I graduate that fee will go up, unless you are already one of my students. If you would like to only have half and hour session it will be half the fee. If you would like to do a group study session the rate would be less per person, but I have not come up with those prices because I have no done group tutoring outside of college employment.
How did you get started teaching?
I started tutoring when I had a teacher at my boarding school reach out to me to help one of her students. Every year after that the school would pay me to tutor students. When I got to college I got special training on tutoring and now I am taking a college course on tutoring as well. I have always had a passion for learning and helping other find the joy in learning as well. And I want to continue to do this for more people.
