About

I have been involved with community service since the 8th grade. I started two non profit groups and campaigns to raise funds and donations of school supplies to provide for underprivileged schools. I am passionate about helping others and enjoy tutoring students of all grade levels. I worked at the Mathnasium of South Charlotte as a tutor for over 2 years and it was one of the most fun and rewarding times of my life. I tutored students in groups of upto 4 in varying levels of math while teaching them tricks and hints to make the math easier. I also tutored independently in my neighborhood and surrounding communities. The students I worked with ranged from kindergarten to high school seniors on Pre-Calculus. I really like working with kids! I am an undergraduate student at UNC Chapel Hill studying Business Administration and Statistics, and was in the top 10% of my class in high school.

I enjoy seeing students faces light up when they understand a difficult concept. Its nice to see the students smile and pump the air when they complete a problem. I like helping people as much as possible and educating younger minds is the best way to make an impact.

    Frequently asked questions

I ask the student what their goals are in the subject they are studying. I then proceed to understand what the student's strengths and weaknesses are for certain topics in that subject. Using that information I try to come up with a plan to cover the necessary information while reviewing topics the student is already comfortable with. After that, I usually ask my students to play a math related game with me for a little friendly competition to keep them motivated.

I have independently tutored students from grades 3 and up in my neighborhood, as well as the surrounding communities. I also worked at the Mathnasium of South Charlotte under Mrs.Krista Adams for over 2 years. I was also the Assistant Head Coach for the neighborhood swim team for 2 years and gave independent lessons in the pool as well. Furthermore, I was an assistant coach for the Sandy Ridge Elementary School Science Olympiad team.

Yes, I charge $15 per hour regardless of the grade level. For students in 8th grade and onwards, I charge $20 an hour. For group lessons in pairs, I charge $25 per hour.

I started tutoring elementary school level students in the 9th grade. I was tutoring between 5 - 15 students a week. I then transitioned into coaching extra curricular activities like swim and Science olympiad mentioned above.

I have worked with more students than I can count of varying personalities and attention spans. I remember tutoring a hyperactive 2nd grade student that was unable to sit in his seat for more than 5 minutes and required more energetic and unique teaching strategies. I have worked with students on the autism spectrum and helped them remain calm while working on challenging problems. I also enjoyed tutoring middle and high school students as there are many pop culture topics to discuss to keep the student motivated while working.

My acapella team recently had our end of year dinner over a Zoom conference call. It was nice to see my friends and sing again while eating various foods from around the world. While we are in different time zones and countries, the music brings us together and it was a really wonderful experience.

I would ask the student to list the qualities they looked for in a tutor and the style of teaching they are comfortable with. I would then advise the student to take a trial session with the instructor to see if they gel with their method of teaching and personality.

The students should ask the instructor what areas of math or other subjects that they are most proficient in. They should ask the tutor to review the required syllabus and course materials, and then ask the instructor to complete some practice problems.
