Hello! My name is Fawn Kiernan. I am an elementary teacher with a special education endorsement. I love tutoring because it gives me the opportunity to teach students one on one while working on skills they may need more help with. I also like to challenge students that test above grade level so they can further their knowledge and skill set. Tutoring is for everyone whether it may be the worry of summer slide, falling behind, or enrichment. I create individualized lessons that are interactive and fun to ensure I capture the student's attention and maintain it in order for them to learn.

Justin K. says, "Jennifer was fantastic! She follows a very formulaic approach to standardized tests and has a tremendous amount of strategies/tips/tricks that make taking the exam much more manageable. I was able to improve my GRE score significantly (7 points) by following her methods and I am satisfied with her service. She pushes you to do your best and cares about your progress as much as you do. I would highly recommend hiring her!" Read more

I'm a certified elementary and special education teacher. I've been teaching in public schools for 11 years, with experience from kindergarten through eighth grade. I am a licensed Wilson Language Practitioner, which is an evidence-based program for people with dyslexia. A high number of public schools have been failing our students by not teaching the foundational reading skills students need to train their brains to read. I'd love to help fix that! I focus on the five pillars of reading instruction, interweaving them into my lessons.

My teaching methods are different from most traditional teachers. I believe fear of the unknown is why most people can’t learn as quickly and efficiently as others. My approach to math is through logic not memorization. As a former aerospace engineer. I realize that math is not a destination the way it was presented to me in my adolescence but rather it is a means to an end. It’s really more like a journey! It’s a tool to get you somewhere higher in the learning process. It’s a road less travelled for many because they fear it. That’s is unfortunate! My background allows me the privilege of being able to present a solution several different

What is special education tutoring?

Special education tutors help students with mild to severe cognitive, emotional, or physical disabilities. Special needs tutors modify the general education curriculum to meet the child's individual needs and involve themselves in each student's social and behavioral development.

What is disability in special education?

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) identifies 13 disability categories where special education should be provided.

  • Auditory Impairment (AI) – refers to a hearing loss not categorized by deafness.

  • Deaf-Blindness (DB) – covers kids with both severe hearing and vision loss that requires unique programs.
  • Emotional Disturbance (ED) – various mental health issues such as anxiety disorder, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and depression.
  • Intellectual Disability (ID) – covers disabilities such as below-average intellectual abilities, poor communication or social skills, and poor self care. One example is down syndrome.
  • Multiple Impairments (MI) – a child with multiple disabilities in this list.
  • Orthopedic Impairment (OI) – covers impairments in kids who lack function or ability in their bodies, such as cerebral palsy.

Mr. Thomas: A special thank you for your assistance with a spreadsheet project that I needed for work; you were able to provide me with valued assistance from functions and formulas and some of those functions were quite challenging and quite unfamiliar. I know that you burned the midnight oil to speed the turnaround of my many questions back to me and I am very grateful and inspired by your knowledge and work ethic. Thank you for your valued assistance; you are on my speed dial and Rolodex. With great appreciation,

We had an excellent experience with the Ms. Mei. Mei, the owner was always on time and good with kids. She is also a teacher and that truly helped assess our kid's needs. I highly recommend her for her hard work and efficiency. She went to our home to tutor our two girls for the OLSAT and my youngest got accepted to her top choice school!
