I also have unique experience preparing students who struggle with Math for Algebra using core standards, but adapting instruction for their needs. I am versed in various strategies, and use "outside the box" strategies to individualize instruction for each student's needs. I am dedicated to the progress and confidence of each student I teach. I am a recent graduate from Tufts University, where I earned my degree in Data Science with a minor in Mathematics. I have experience applying these concepts practically through research data analyst internships, which helps me ground difficult academic material in real-world logic. As a former four-year varsity student-athlete, I bring a high level of patience, structure, and encouraging energy to my sessions. My goal is to make advanced topics like calculus, statistics, and programming feel approachable and manageable, helping students build genuine confidence in their quantitative skills.

The accomplishment of teaching the so-called "unteachable". Ability to observe the student and offer different ways to teach the lessons. During the COVID-19 pandemic, when the children were not able to attend school, I was able to assist 4 students who were a part of the special education in their school district. They were frustrated and did not want to do the work to learn any subject. Now, they have achieved honor roll and principal's list certificates with one consistently asking for extra work. Since I am a pastor, this is the ministry assigned to me by my Shepherd. I have some college credits, and experience tutoring children and adul

What is special education tutoring?

Special education tutors help students with mild to severe cognitive, emotional, or physical disabilities. Special needs tutors modify the general education curriculum to meet the child's individual needs and involve themselves in each student's social and behavioral development.

What is disability in special education?

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) identifies 13 disability categories where special education should be provided.

  • Auditory Impairment (AI) – refers to a hearing loss not categorized by deafness.
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) – mainly affects a child's social and communication skills and behavior.
  • Deafness – covers kids who can't hear most or all sounds, even with a hearing aid.
  • Deaf-Blindness (DB) – covers kids with both severe hearing and vision loss that requires unique programs.
  • Emotional Disturbance (ED) – various mental health issues such as anxiety disorder, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and depression.
  • Intellectual Disability (ID) – covers disabilities such as below-average intellectual abilities, poor communication or social skills, and poor self care. One example is down syndrome.

Reviews for Philadelphia special education tutors

Recent success stories from people in the Philadelphia area.
Elizabeth N.
Since starting reading tutoring with Anne-Marie Coakley, our son has flourished! Anne-Marie took time to get to know our son early on and made an immediate connection with him, setting him at ease. He frequently mentions how awesome she is and how much fun tutoring is! Not only has his reading skills improved exponentially, but his self confidence is rising and he no longer puts himself down. He actively reads road signs and his surrounds, wants to play games that require reading, and even helps his sibling with their homework! We can tell he feels more on pace with his classmates and has excelled in other subjects too! We are so happy with our decision to hire Anne-Marie!

Thomas is an absolute godsend. My son struggles badly with math but being a computer major, there's alot of math. Thomas explains it all in a way that my son isn't just memorizing formulas, he is actually understanding it. No more math classes without Thomas!
