About
I have been teaching in elementary schools both in the US and overseas (Singapore, Australia, Japan and Hong Kong) for the past 29 years. I have a Masters in Elementary Education from Hunter College in New York and a Bachelors degree in Mathematics from SUNY at Potsdam. I have worked with children of all ages both in the classroom and as a tutor. I have experience in reading instruction, writing, organization, goal setting and prioritization, homework and math.
I enjoy helping students love learning and being happy and productive in whatever they try to do.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Usually, I will meet with the child and his or her parent at a convenient time and place for them.We will spend some time getting to know each other and what kind of help is needed from me and what materials I will need to have going forward. Once we are comfortable with the parameters, we will begin our sessions. I act as a teacher, motivator and supporter. My goal is always to build confidence, independence and positive self esteem so that the student can progress and feel accomplished in completing tasks.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Masters in Elementary Education and a Bachelors Degree in Mathematics. I have 30 years of teaching and tutoring experience both in the US and overseas.
How did you get started teaching?
I was working on Wall Street and feeling the need for a change. I had taught swimming classes throughout high school and college and knew that teaching was something I was passionate about. So, I left my job on Wall Street and went back to graduate school for elementary education.
What types of students have you worked with?
Students from Pre-K through High School, both in the US and in international schools in Singapore, Australia, Japan and Hong Kong.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I just moved to Philidelphia and entered the 1/2 marathon which was an excellent event.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Be sure that he or she is kind, but can motivate you to be the best student you can be. Have a sense of humor and know when to push you and when to back off and give you a break.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Have I really tried all of the things I know what to do before asking for help?
Can I think of things in my “mental tool box” that could help me with this?
