Emelie Tutoring
About
I provide individualized instruction taylored to each of my students. I strive to create a safe and positive learning environment by encouraging my students to embrace a growth mindset about math and their abilities.
My favorite moments as a teacher are when I see my students have an "Aha moment," that moment when they understand a concept or topic that once seemed impossible.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I assess each student's strengths and needs and taylor my instruction based on where they are in the learning process. I believe it is important, particularly in math, to assess learning on a weekly basis, as each skill often builds on the last. I provide additonal instruction and extra practice when needed, homework help, as well as review of past skills.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania, and a masters in math education from Saint Joseph's University. I specialize in math education for students in grades 4 - 8. I have 4 years experience in the classroom, as both a mainstream classroom teacher as well as a math specialist. During my years in the classroom, I often used a flipped classroom model, in which virtual learning is integral. I will apply my experience in virtual learning to the current needs of my students.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $15-20 per hour.
How did you get started teaching?
I initially thought I was going to pursue a career in psychological laboratory research at UPenn; however, I volunteered at an after-school program, Bethel Academy, in Ardmore, PA, and I found that the students, their energy and joy were contagious. I looked forward to each afternoon and soon found myself pursuing a career in teaching.
