FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

Initially, I will interview the student to introduce myself, get to know her/him and determine what kind of formative assessment.is needed.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I earned over 30 credits in undergrad and post undergrad course work in business and advanced math. I also passed a state certification in middle years math and general science. Lastly, I have taught middle years math for over 10 years.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

My standard instruction pricing is $30/40mins or $60/80 mins.  This includes one or two 40 min consecutive sessions. Initial evaluation/interview priced at same rate as online instruction.

How did you get started teaching?

. I started teaching after working as a substitute teacher for about three years. I started taking advanced math courses while subbing. After graduating with a Masters in Ed, I qualified to take certification tests to teach middle years math and general science and passed.

What types of students have you worked with?

I worked primarily with public and charter middle school students.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

I am fond of the years in which many of my students moved clearly from one state mandated test catagory into the next higher level of proficiency.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

I would tell a student to look for a teacher who has experience teaching your class subject or is able to do the due diligence to prepare for the topics you need to understand if confident they can help.

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

Students should think about why they are having difficulty with the subject and be able to communicate that.    When did you first notice you needed help? How helpful are their primary instructors? When are you available?   What are your short term needs and goals?   What are your long term goals?
