About

Hello there! I finished my B.S. in Pure Mathematics at the University of Iowa last semester. I'm Steven Koprowicz and I live, sleep, and breathe tutoring.

Okay, that may be hyperbole, but I do love to tutor / teach. My passion is teaching, even though I'm not an education major (though I have taken a 6000-level Ed Psych class and Iowa's prestigious creative writing class). Rather, I have a strong mathematics background. I've taken graduate-level mathematics courses. I just finished MATH:6400: Algebraic Topology (A), among others. I also double majored in computer science (I am very strong at Java) and have taken Iowa's most advanced creative writing courses. However, unlike my classmates, I have memorized the curriculum for almost all of the lower-level courses. I have a different teaching style than most, based on research and experience. My bookshelf is filled with hundreds of books, much of these on education. I have researched the art of teaching to a great extent, so I feel that my methods are quite credible. My goal is not just to help you to pass, nor just to help you reach the top of your class, but rather to help you perceive and conceptualize mathematics in a way that will aid you throughout all of your education. However, if my style of teaching does not fit your preference, I am happy to alter it in any way.

For my undergraduate courses, my Math + Comp Sci GPA is above a 4.0. I taught myself Calculus I--III, Pre-Calc, Geometry, and Algebra I, all in my first two years of high school (back in the day). I have previously worked in the University of Iowa Mathematics Lab, have previously worked with middle and high school students, and have tutored nearly all courses from high school Algebra I and Geometry to undergraduate Abstract Algebra and Analysis. Just last semester, while in school, I tutored 100+ hours in 10+ different courses.

If you are having trouble with preliminary material or if you feel you've fallen behind, I am more than happy to teach you mathematics from the bottom up.

I love being able to introduce students who may have previously struggled with math to the nature and beauty of mathematics. It's wonderful seeing students' excitement after coming to new realizations.

Steven tutored me for Calculus for the Biological Sciences. He is very knowledgeable about mathematics and was willing to reteach me all of the material.

Frequently asked questions

Depending on what is requested, my typical process to teach "from the ground up." I try to locate and teach any prelimnary concepts that the student may still be struggling with. This then leads into the student's current material. In my experience, I have found this method to be the most timely and effective.

Certified Tutor, 100+ hours in experience

I have taught myseld or self-studied over 10 courses for college credit, including Geometry, PreCalculus, Calculus I and II (AP Calculus BC), Calculus III, and Computer Science I (AP Computer Science)

Still only age 19 (10/2001).

I charge $50/hour for online tutoring and $60/hour for in-person tutoring. These may be reduced depending on the session length and/or driving distance.

I got started in my sophomore year of high school by tutoring my friends that were struggling in Geometry. I had been taking Calculus at the time.

I worked with a wide variety of students, ranging from 5th graders to university seniors.
