About

I am a senior in high school who adores helping others. From a young age I’ve been passionate about teaching. I was an honor roll student in all of middle school and an A average student in English throughout high school. I am fluent in Spanish and am confident in my ability to teach English to a native Spanish speaker, but if your first language is something different, I will still try my best. I am honestly just trying to earn money for college. I want to see you succeed and will do what it takes to see that happen. Prices are negotiable, and even if you are unable to pay, please message me. I accept everyone, of every ability (unless you are more advanced in a subject than I am! If you live in or near my city, I can offer free group sessions at a public library. I don’t only tutor in English—it’s just my strongest subject :) (I will NOT charge you for a session if I do not feel confident in my ability to tutor you).

Frequently asked questions

The first session is spent creating a goal to work towards. I will ask for school curriculum, standards, books, or anything that could help me know exactly what the student needs to understand. I’ll ask the student how comfortable they feel with what they are learning. I like to use goal-setting worksheets and teach note-taking and studying strategies. I will ask the student about their learning style and about how they learn best. Also, let me know what type of snacks you like!

As a high school senior, I am still in the school system and therefore my knowledge is still fresh in my mind. In all my years of English classes, I have been at the top of my class, and my teachers have always commented on my skill level in class, but also my work ethic and ability to help other students.

Typically, my price is $8 for 30 minutes, $11 for 45 minutes, and $15 for one hour. However, my goal isn’t to earn lots of money, but to help people (and, let’s face it, gain hours of experience for my resume). So, if you can’t pay full price, we can work something out.

I have worked with all kinds of students. Everyone is welcome. Non-native English speakers, students struggling with intellectual, mental, or emotional disabilities, students battling mental illness or substance abuse, students of unstable economic backgrounds, students facing food instability—all different types of students. No matter what obstacles you face, I am here to support you.

Know what you need help on, specifically. Also, know your learning style. Maybe take a quiz or two to find out what yours is if you’re not sure. Find someone who can meet you where you’re at, and who can get you to where you want to be. Even if you’re frustrated with school, bring your desire to do better and to meet your goals to your sessions. You have to want to learn for someone to teach you. It is also important to be open to new and different methods of learning something. Communicate your needs, your obstacles, your strengths, and your goal. Teachers are here to support you in a way that works for you!

The questions I typically ask students relate to where they are at right now, where they want to be, what ways we can get there, and what kind of support they need along the way. This is about you meeting your academic goals, whatever that may be.
