I look for what the student already knows, so that I can build on those ideas. With a few short diagnostic exercises, I can determine where to focus our efforts for optimal outcomes.

I also consider both what each student wants to learn and needs to know for courses or work.

I keep the tone of my sessions casual, friendly, and respectful. I love tutoring, so I see it as an opportunity to learn as well as teach.

I taught as a graduate student at UNLV in Las Vegas in order to pay for my Master's Degree and found it suited me perfectly.

I have worked with students from age six to sixty, on a tight budget, wealthy, of every race and ethnicity, rural, and urban. Recently I have been tutoring students who tend to be high achievers and looking for competitive edge, but I work well with all types of learners. I have experience with gifted and unusual thinkers as well as students with ADHD and ODD and those along the spectrum. 

I live in Oregon and love the outdoors, so hiking, backpacking, canoeing or any nature-gazing trips are always beloved events throughout the summer while reading, writing, and watching movies are common in the winter. Lately I've taken up growing vegetables from seed.
