About
We have locations all throughout Portland, not just in Lake Oswego, so check mathnasium.com to find the center nearest you.
When students struggle with Math at school, it's almost always because there are gaps in their fundamental skills. At Mathnasium, we don't merely help students complete their homework, we assess their skills and identify gaps in their fundamental skills, design a learning plan to address those gaps so that skills are mastered at every level, making the current level accessible and doable for the student.
We are far more than just tutoring - we are a Math Learning Center, and guess what? Kids actually LIKE coming to Mathansium! We work very hard to make Mathnasium the best value in K-12 education available anywhere. Ask about a free assessment and free trial and let us know you what a positive difference Mathnasium can make in your child's life.
We have countless stories of students who were failing or in jeopardy of being held back that we've not only helped survive, but THRIVE in mathematics. We make math make sense, and feel anyone can tackle and understand math up through the High School level. It's very rewarding to see students learn to solve problems independently and not only improve their math scores, but fundamentally improve their lives.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We start with an assessment - assessments are free for tutors.com users, but give very specific results, and provides the parent with all the additional information needed to make an informed decision about enrolling. We also offer a free trial session after the initial assessment. A free trial isn't always necessary but we're happy to offer that to parents who want to learn more before enrolling.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
All of our staff have passed rigorous Math aptitude testing before we deem them as qualified candidates. We then train our instructors through Mathnasium University, which certifies instructors as being well versed in the Mathnasium method and curriculum.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
There is a one-time $149 registration. Registration is good for a student's academic lifetime. After registration, tuition is paid monthly, like a gym membership, and allows for daily on-demand sessions during our instruction hours. We recommend 2 sessions per week in order to effectively catch up, keep up, and get ahead in Math
How did you get started teaching?
go to any of our websites (www.mathnasium.com/lakeoswego, mathnasium.com/raleighhills or mathnasium.com/westlinn and look under the 'team' tab for biographies!
What types of students have you worked with?
All ages K-12, plus we have a number of adult students who are trying to satisfy their general math requirement for secondary education. We can get you caught up so you can test into the the course you need for your certification, saving a LOT of time and money on College math remediation courses.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Call and ask us - there are way too many to mention. We have a very strong track record of success. In one case, we actually helped a student to stop being a victim of bullying because he gained so much confidence in school from working with Mathnasium. We aren't merely helping kids through Math, we are dramatically changing lives and opening doors of opportunities for students who have been mistakenly told that 'you just aren't a math person' HOGWASH! we don't buy it, not up through High School math. Anyone can succeed.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Remember that while a tutor can help you, the single most important factor in your success is you. Show up, do the work that we assign, and be as efficient with your work as possible - we will get you there!
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Understand what your needs are; will your skill gaps continue to haunt you after you take the next quiz, or next test. Find someone who is dedicated to building your skills to such a degree that you can significantly reduce your need for outside math tutoring.
