About
I offer general tutoring, with a specialty in english and literature at all levels. I teach music (vocal and guitar lessons) and work with children, adults, and people with developmental disabilities. My experience as a certified Direct Support Professional in the State of Oregon have equipped me for this unique position. I am able to engage even the most distractible students online by making it fun and encouraging questions and discussions to help understand the material and be successful in the real world, beyond a letter grade. With younger students I use puppets and music. With older students I use a variety of multimedia. I believe skills learned through school should be aplicable to the real world and knowledge should reflect that complexity, challenging my students to think outside the box.
I have been teaching for 6 years, and working with people with developmental disabilities for 4. I enjoy finding ways to engage challenging students and finding out what sparks their interest.
I am curently employed at Phamepdx.org, leading online creative classes to adults with developmental disabilities which includes bulding skills like video editing, speech therapy, physical therapy, mindfullness, spelling, grammer, storytelling, writing, reading, etc.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Once I am familiar with the curriculum, or goals, I develop a loose lesson plan. When i meet the student, I like to spend some time getting to know them and how they learn/what they're interested in. I then adjust the lesson plan as needed, throughout the lessons. I like to develop goals with the student, if applicable, and I've found that creative projects help to engage students, leading to greater information retention.
