Before working with my students I like to get an idea of who they are as a person. Learning about goals, hobbies, and personality is a great way to connect.
The first session will consist of learning what the student is currently struggling with and finding a personal approach that will resonate with the individual student. I also have a short meeting with the parent to learn more about my student and see what goals we need to work towards.
My goal is to not only prepare the student for the test, but to apply techniques learned to all parts of their life.

How did you get started teaching?
I have always enjoyed teaching. It is a pleasure to see students brighten up when they learn something cool or understand a difficult subject. Knowledge is a tool everyone should have access to, I want to see a world where students are inspired and want to learn.
I started tutoring in High School and have come to love it.
What types of students have you worked with?
I work with all types of students typically from 1st grade to 9th grade.
I can also possibly make accommodations for students of higher age, please contact me for details.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Knowledge and Inspiration are key ingredients in a good teacher or tutor. It is necessary to connect with the student on a personal level and to ensure that they can understand the material in a way that makes sense to them individually. Being kind, understanding, and slow to anger are also essential for any great instructor.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
I think it really depends on the context, most teachers are always excited when a student comes in for help. With any problem it is always important to try yourself. A student should think through every problem before asking a teacher. However, don’t be afraid to ask a teacher anything, they are there and will gladly help.
