About

Hello! My name is Josh and I moved here to Eugene this summer after graduating from University of Southern California with a Master's in Computer Science. I also studied Mathematics and Physics at Vanderbilt University, graduating Summa Cum Laude. Math has been my most beloved subject since pre-K and I love solving math puzzles for fun! As a teaching assistant at USC, my favorite classes were AI and cryptography. Mirroring my undergrad experience, I noticed that my students often felt overwhelmed by everything on their plate. This inspired me to create a decompressing environment, integrating tea and mindfulness practices during office hours and discussion groups. I also loved crafting creative assignments that reviewed the core concepts without the busy work in order to minimize stress. As a tutor, I am excited to co-create a relaxing space conducive to learning, calling in patience, self-care, and creative expression to help students feel empowered to navigate roadblocks.

Ever since I started my college career, Ive felt a dissonance between my self and my feelings. It has always been a facet of myself that I cant quite grasp. I tell myself and others that I lack the vocabulary/emotional intelligence to understand whats going on inside. Maybe Ive just been trying the wrong approach. I dont think theres a mindfulness textbook that defines the way that mindfulness should work (there might be though, and if there is thats cool), its different for everyone. This exercise was really freeing in that it showed me that there is no one formula for mindfulness, that it can even come in the form of constructing Markov Decision Processes (MDPs) and running policy extraction, and that I shouldnt put as much pressure on myself to have this idealistic grasp on mindfulness. So thank you Josh and CS360 course staff for letting me learn a little more about MDPs and also about myself!
