Ackerman Tutoring
About
Hello, my name is Martin Kendal Ackerman and I look forward to helping you learn!
I have my PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the Johns Hopkins University and have taught at Johns Hopkins, Maryland Institutes: College of Art and Brown Mackie College. In addition to teaching at the College level I have tutored many High School students through Varsity Tutors in Saint Louis and I have freelanced with students of all ages.
At Johns Hopkins, I mentored many undergraduate and high school students through my research lab, helping them to learn new material, set up experiments, and write reports. I also served as a teaching assistant for multiple mathematics, physics and dynamics related classes and I developed a project centered robotics curriculum that included hands-on laboratory procedures, homework assignments, projects and lectures. I have served as part-time faculty at the Maryland Institutes: College of Art - teaching topics related to art, philosophy, design, electrical and mechanical engineering, and physics. I built the physics course from the ground, up, creating the curriculum, choosing materials and designing experiments and assignments. At Brown Mackie College in Saint Louis, I was hired as faculty to teach classes in, and manage the curriculum development of, the Biomedical Technology department.
I have had much experience helping students learn, both in one-on-one settings and classroom environments. I am a patient educator who keeps the big picture in mind while guiding the student one step at a time - filling in the pieces of the story like a puzzle. I love to see people learn new things and experience the "lightbulb" when they grasp a new topic.
