Sherick Math Tutoring
About
I have been a certified teacher for 8 years for grades 4-9 in math and science. I have taught 5th, 7th and 8th grade math and science. I have been tutoring for 6 years for grades 1-10 in all subject areas, study skills and test prep. I price my sessions based on frequency, travel and topic. I employ various instructional methods to work with students one on one to ensure accessibility and retention of content.
As a teacher, I love the lightbulb moments when I can tell a student really understands something. I enjoy the tutoring side of education for the opportunity to help students grow and watch them succeed individually.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
For the first session, I would talk to the student and parent about strengths and areas for growth from their view. Based on the need, I would use use different methods to determine where to start to fill gaps in understanding and strengthen content understanding.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I price sessions based on travel, frequency and topic. My base price is $40 per hour but is negotiable depending upon frequency of session. I also ask for an additional $5 for every 15 minutes I have to travel from home, but will not apply if a student travels to me. Upper grades subjects are an additional $5 because of the extra time needed to prep for a session.
How did you get started teaching?
I started working as a peer tutor in high school and fou d a passion for math and for teaching. I decided to become a middle school teacher and have continued tutoring outside of teaching in the classroom.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have experience working with students ranging from 1st grade to 10th grade in reading, writing, general math, algebra, general science, biology, chemisrty, history and ACT prep. The students I've worked with have attended urban schools, rural schools and private schools. Each of these students had different needs from enrichment, learning disabilities and needing extra support, and health issues that limited access to public school.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
While years of experience are important, the best teachers are those that meet their students where they are and help them grow with passion and enthusiasm.
