When I am tutoring a child I like to come up with different games to play so children have fun while learning. There are studies that have been done on children that if they are having fun and interested in the lesson then they will be able to retain the information easier. I have been teaching in daycares since I was 16. I have been a substitute teacher for a year, a tutor for two years, and now a first-grade teacher assistant. I have a bachelors degree in early childhood education. I am also in school working on my master's degree in reading intervention.
I love watching the child's skills and abilities grow and continue to get better. I get joy from being able to help children accomplish goals and learn new things that they were struggling in.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First I like to talk to parents to discuss what they have noticed or what the child's teacher has said about what the child is struggling in. This will give me an idea of where to start. The week of sitting down with the child I will do assessments to get the best result of where to start. This will also allow me to see what type of learner the child is and if they need hands-on activities or watch and then do themselves. I will also give assessments or checks after several weeks to show parents how they are improving.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been a tutor for a sixth-grade boy for a little over a year now. I also worked at Sylvan learning center as a tutor there.

I normally charge $30 per hour.
How did you get started teaching?
I have always loved helping children out. It was something I have always enjoyed. I love watching the children's faces light up when they are understanding what they are being taught.
What types of students have you worked with?
Most ages in elementary and struggling readers and math.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
While working with a student who has been struggling with reading all year long, we sat down to read a fluency paragraph he did an excellent job. Before working with the student he wasn't able to read more than four words now he was able to read half the paragraph. When he finished reading his smile was the best because he was so proud of himself and so was I.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
While you are looking for someone to help you make sure that the tutor knows the subjects that you need help in. Provide examples of the things you need help with. An example of this would be if you need help with math. Send a message asking the tutor if they understand how to explain to you to solve a certain problem. This will give you a good idea if the tutor is a good selection or not.
