About
Calculus can be a complex subject to learn. However, there are simple theorems or "rules" that you play by. By understanding these rules really well, the game becomes much easier. I take the approach of teaching the specific methods and problem solving techniques that school systems and colleges want you to know, but I always tie those back in to the basic theorems and rules so that students have a better feeling for how everything is connected.
I enjoy working with students and seeing that "I've got it!" or "Eureka!" moment where something they thought they would never understand makes sense all at once. A lot of the issue students have with hard math classes is maintaining the confidence that they can understand some of the more difficult and abstract concepts. I enjoy providing just enough help and reassurance so that students can keep that confidence in themselves and have a successful experience with calculus.
