About this tutor

My services stand out because I use a combination of Socratic method, and the Classical method.  This is not a set of methods to just pass a test but to deeply internalize and master the subject matter.

I have been in this field for over 17yrs. I also have my B.S. in Chemistry.

If the students choose to use my methods of study they can go from "F to A!"

The thing that excites me the most about tutoring is the, "Aha!" moments!  To see the lightbulbs go off inside someone is my delight.

My daughter has been using Mrs. Wagers as a tutor for 3 weeks. The dramatic change in her understanding has been a true blessing. I really appreciate the amount of time she dedicates to teaching “how to read” and “how to study” for this specific topic. And those skills have also helped in other subjects. She has been a great find!

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

First, I get to know the student and find the areas of interest and difficulty.  I begin to see where the student has questions over the subject material.  Then I try and relate the issue to their interests.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have a bachelor's degree in Chemistry.  I also have 17 years of experience in tutoring.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

I charge $30/hr.  If several lessons were purchased together (10+), I would reduce the price to $25/hr.

How did you get started teaching?

Students in class started asking for help.  My professor saw what a great job I was doing.  He offered me a job with the department.  Since then, I have worked for other tutoring firms and have a business of my own.

What types of students have you worked with?

High school, college and grad school.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Be ready to put the time in and be ready to ask lots of questions.   Also, be ready to listen and do what is required of you.  This is how to get the most for your money.
