I have a Bachelor's degree in education with a reading credential. I have been tutoring privately for a year. I previously worked as a after school tutor at Indian Valley Local Schools for 3 years, during this time I was in charge of 3rd to 5th grade students. My responsibilities included lesson planning, homework assistance, games or other extra activities which would help the students in understanding the material. I also served as a substitute teacher for 5 years.
I currently also teach English online to Chinese speaking students.
I enjoy seeing the absolute delight on a child's face when they realize that they understand the material. It is so rewarding to help a child overcome whatever hurtles are hindering them from seeing that they are capable.
I love the one on one interaction of tutoring as opposed to a classroom setting. It is so much easier to help a student when it is in an individual setting.
I believe learning should be fun and interactive. Everyone can learn and deserves the chance to shine!
We've only had 3 sessions with Sandy but find her knowledge base and skill set more than adequate. My granddaughter has taken to Sandy and os eager to please her undoubtedly because Sandy is patient and attentive to her needs .
Mrs. Brown has been wonderful for Cullen. For the first time, he has been cooperative with math, and I am incredibly grateful for the time she spends with him, and she has the most reasonable rates out there. I would HIGHLY recommend her to anyone who has a struggling math student.
Sandy has been working with our daughter for about a month now and she is already improving her grades! She likes to teach by playing games with our daughter and she loves it! Doesn't feel like an extra hour of school.
I typically start with a meet and greet session at no cost. During this session I get to know the student personally and what they like or dislike. I assess the strengths and weaknesses of the student. I find out what the parent/student is wanting to get out of the tutoring sessions. I then lay out a plan that will roughly be followed. I outline some of the activities I will utilize during the tutoring sessions.
Bachelor's degree in education with specialization in reading. TESOL certification.
My price includes homework assistance, study skills, and lesson reinforcement through various methods.
I charge a base price of $10/hr for online tutoring. This is prorated to $8 for 45 min sessions.
I charge a base price of $15 for in person tutoring within 45 miles(1 hr drive) and $20 for tutoring greater than 45 miles (1 hr plus). All these sessions are 45 minutes. Past 45 minutes the rate increase $5 for each additional 15 minutes.
I had always wanted to go into teaching since I was six and my first grade teacher instilled in me a passion for learning. I went to college later in life but it was worth the wait as I had achieved my life long dream.
I have worked with a variety of students. I have taught in regular classroom setting where students of all learning abilities are included. I, however, have mainly worked with students who have an IEP and need extra attention and time.
Recently I have started working with older students to improve their study skills and understanding of more complex material.
