About
My name is Kayla and I love to tutor. Yes, you heard right! I believe that no student should ever feel like a failure or alone in his or her academic pursuit. My aim is to provide the student with the tools necessary to succeed on their own. I have been tutoring for the last 6 plus years serving students in the Tri-state area as well as those overseas via Skype and email. My experience spans the gamut from tutoring basic algebra and biology to GRE prep and college writing.
I graduated undergraduate school, earning my BA, with Honors and as the valedictorian of my graduating class. I took my GRE’s and then went on to graduate school for an MA in Speech Language Pathology. I graduated with Honors and as valedictorian. I earned these awards by hard, devoted work. The same skills I used to succeed in my academic career, are the ones that I will deliver to you when we work together.
Currently, I am taking a sabbatical from working as a Speech Language Pathologist to focus on expanding my expertise and knowledge in specific areas of Speech Pathology. In my free time, I hope to do what I love, tutoring and educating the minds of the future.
I love helping people to reach their academic goals. Seeing the satisfaction on a student’s face after working hard to grasp material and finally “getting it” is exhilarating for me. It gives me a sense of mission and fulfillment when I am able to invest my all into a student, and see them flourish.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
After working as a tutor for so many years, I have developed a prototype for success. The first session typically involves getting to know the student, exploring the class/subject which needs tutoring, evaluating where he or she is academically struggling, and establishing a plan of action for the next few sessions. If there is time, we may get started on exploring the material at hand. Each session will build on the prior one. I expect the student to be diligent and on top of both the sessions and his or her own time spent on learning the material.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
The areas I choose to tutor in are those in which I am an expert at. Throughout my academic and professional career, I have worked hard on perfecting my writing skills. Similarly, I worked hard to learn the intricacies of the GRE and how to optimally perform. I present to you the years of experience and hard work that I myself have invested.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My standard price includes not only the session but the countless time and energy I will invest both prior and after our sessions to ensure that you get the most optimal tutoring session. I will stop at nothing to ensure my students' academic susccess.
How did you get started teaching?
As a diligent, hard-working student, I myself was a recipient of great tutors and teachers. They are what inspired me to be a tutor. Already when I was in high school, I began tutoring elementary school children. From there, it just expanded.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with young children with learning or developmental delays to honors graduate students. There is no student that cannot be helped.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I once had a student come to me with a term paper due within 2 weeks of our session. She was very disorganized and scattered. We worked hard for 2 weeks, and by the end of our time together, she felt so accomplished and so satisfied with her work it truly was moving. I always look to this event for strength and encouragement to continue doing what I do.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
My advice to any student looking to hire a teacher in any area is to first make sure they are willing to invest the time and energy to work hard with a teacher. Teachers are great, but they are not magicians. You need a good work ethic to get far. Once you have that, look for a teacher who is passionate, caring and smart. It may seem like simple advice, but it is true.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
I am a BIG fan of questions. We learn from our own and other people's questions. Dont think too much before asking. Just ask!
