Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I work on getting a baseline of the student’s understanding, then I focus my efforts on strengthening their weaknesses and enriching their strengths.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have 20 years of teaching students in the public school setting.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I ask for $50 per hour for one hour a week sessions, but if the student needs more time a week, the price is negotiable for multiple sessions a week and if the parents gave me referrals.
How did you get started teaching?
I saw a need that the larger classes in schools couldn’t address with a true small focused group like private tutoring.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with grades 4 through 12 and some college-aged. I have worked with honor students and students with disabilities.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Helping a student making connections with the vocabulary in Living Environments. Now she is able to talk herself through the practice Regents using logic and critical thinking.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look at the connection the tutor tries to make. You need a connection to truly learn and apply practice.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Where am I as far as the learning is concerned? How can what we do now help me achieve more in my learning? How can I start to self-monitor my learning through this process?
