What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When working with a new student, we begin by getting to know a little more about the student's learning style and interests. No good teacher can be effictive without understanding what motivates the learner. We also assess the student's current skill level. We must elevate the student from where they are and lead them to where they would like to be and further.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from Binghamton University and worked toward a Master os Science in Education, concentrating in Physics. I have 10+ years of teaching and tutoring experience in mathematics and science.
How did you get started teaching?
I began teaching in high school believe it or not when I became a paid peer tutor in my high school and immediately experienced successful results.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have experienced success with students of all backgrounds.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for a teacher who enjoys their subject and can communicate the joy of the subject effectively to you. Passion can be infectious. Also look for a teacher who has diverse real world experiences to help show the relevance of the material. Finally, look for a teacher with a sense of humor and who is personable.
