Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We identify a student's particular academic strengths and weaknesses, and use that information to individualize instruction.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Our teachers all have master's or doctorate degrees in teaching and/or their subject matter expertise (math, biology, etc.). The Executive Director earned her undergraduate degree at Stanford and her master's and doctorate at Columbia.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Typically it's $65 an hour or $500 for a block of 10 lessons. Our accredited courses are generally $490 per semester.
How did you get started teaching?
There are several of us here at I*School who got into teaching for different reasons. Mine was because my kids were struggling in school and I decided they would do better if homeschooled. That was the start of I*School nine years ago. Please see our parent and student reviews at https://greatnonprofits.org/org/ischool.
What types of students have you worked with?
The entire range of students from the profoundly gifted to the profoundly challenged with Asperger's, chronic illnesses, competitive sports schedules, you name it. The common feature of our students is that they are academically motivated to succeed.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Come prepared to talk through what subjects you are most excited about, what challenges you have, what your goals are.
