What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to take some time to learn a little bit about my student's background, the class he or she is taking, and what that student needs out of a tutoring session.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelor of the Arts in Education, and minor in Journalism, with Honors Program participation, from the University of Nevada.
Further, I have been a freelance writer and educator since 2014.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Lessons are $20 per hour.
How did you get started teaching?
My interest in teaching began when I took a history course from a professor who became a personal friend. His research assistant, who was supposed to make his PowerPoints, would instead copy and paste his lecture notes to a slide. I was already familiar with the material, so I offered to make better Powerpoints for him, with manageable text, images and even music. We worked together until he retired!
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students of most ages and many different backgrounds. My specialty is working with high school and college students on their essays.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I enjoy holidays in general, especially when they aren't cancelled for Coronavirus!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
It's best to hire a teacher who has had to write the same sort of material that you must write. If you're writing an essay, a writer of instruction manuals may not have insight into your needs.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Are you willing to make mistakes and learn from them?
