Lexi Pappas English Tutor
About
I have a B.A. in English from UNLV and have worked at Huntington Learning Center for the past six years. I love what I do and love seeing my students’ faces when they achieve their goals, whether those goals are as simple as understanding vocabulary words or as complex as writing a college essay.
As a Huntington Learning Center employee, I have helped students from ages five to 16 gain an understanding of the English language, both written and spoken. Recently, I was given the Lead Tutor/Trainer for the company.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The first thing I like to do with a student is get to know them. I like to ask questions to help put them at ease before jumping right in. I find that sharing little things about myself and asking them about their interests helps to break the ice and allow us both to get to know each other. Then we begin the lesson by going over what they already know and what they feel they need the most work on. I also like to speak with the parents beforehand to establish trust and familiarity.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
i have a B.A. in English from UNLV and have worked at Huntington Learning Center for six years.
I worked at Children’s Learning Adventure for just under a year, with school aged children.
i have also helped friends’s children with their homework, study skills and organizational skills.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Lessons usually begin with homework help. This includes reviewing the homework assigned and checking for understanding of the assignment. Next is a free writing, where I give them a chance to write about anything they want. This gives me an opportunity to get a feel for their writing skills and to see what needs to be worked on the most.
How did you get started teaching?
I began tutoring in 2012 and though it started out as a way to escape retail, I soon grew to love being with the students and my coworkers. I found that I have a passion for helping students do better in school and gain confidence in their educational lives.
What types of students have you worked with?
i have worked with students of all ages, from three years old to sixteen. While I do not have much experience working with children with disabilities, I am open to the opportunity to help them in any way I can.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Recently, I was named Lead Tutor/Trainer at my current job. It was a point of pride for me as I have learned from some of the best tutors I know and to be given the opportunity to pass that along as been rewarding.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for someone who has similar experiences with schooling and with educational struggles. It is also important to find a tutor who can help you achieve your goals in a realistic time frame.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
