About
I love to help students of all ages and learning levels! I feel very comfortable ranging from K-12 and with tutoring multiple students at once. I have professional experience teaching and helping students reach their potential.
I recently moved to the Columbia area as a military spouse and I am about to complete a Bachelor's degree from BYU finishing my last course online. While in school I have also been working as a long term substitute teacher for Clark County School District. This is a licensed position, requiring a thorough background check, proof of academic transcripts, etc.
Most recently I was the long term replacement in a 5th grade vacancy. As a long term sub, I have the same responsibilities as a full-time teacher: lesson planning, classroom management, parent outreach/conferences, monitoring individual student progress, etc. I was also a permanent daily substitute for a school year at Boulder City High School, so I am comfortable with a wide range of ages.
I am also a great resource for test prep! I am passionate about helping others succeed in standardized testing like AP exams and the ACT/SAT. As a National Merit Scholar, I had to take many iterations of the PSAT and SAT. I received dozens of college credits through AP exams and have taken further college courses in those subjects. I have also taken time to study and practice test taking strategies and have experiences implementing those with students in the classroom.
I am passionate about tutoring because I know that all students can benefit from personalized learning opportunities. Whether your student is gifted or needs more confidence in a certain subject area, extra practice and one on one attention can help them become a more successful learner. It is incredibly rewarding to create and meet educational goals and I would love to facilitate that feeling of accomplishment with students.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The most important aspect of successful tutoring is to identify the primary and secondary goals of the student. I like to meet with each student to determine a baseline to build off of. Then, based on how frequent/long the sessions will be, we can create an individualized game plan to reach micro goals that will help us build toward the realization of the main goal. In this initial meeting, I like to get a feel for the students learning style and preferences (though I will continue to hone in on this over time), so that I can provide materials in the future that will work for them specifically. If the goal is homework help, I like to familiarize myself with the types of assignments and classwork that the student will be working on.
