About this tutor

Over the years, I have tutored all age groups from elementary school into college.  I have BS and MS degrees in Computer Engineering, so I have extensive mathematical, applied mathematical, and science training.  Because each subject or topic builds upon the previous, it is extremely important to me that my students understand each progressive topic and for them to have the confidence to excel.  I have tutored students that have fallen behind, those that need an extra boost along the way, and those that want to get ahead.  I tutor multiple subjects to many of students in each lesson or during a second lesson in the week.
During the school year, I usually tutor 15-25 students each week.  Over each summer, I tutor and teach 5-10 students  multiple days per week.  It is my delight to be working with such great kids at any stage of their education.
I work well with students and parents alike and I love seeing kids understand the material, improve grades, and have a good time learning.  Having tutored, taught, or homeschooled each subject many times, parents have told me often how well their children are learning the particular subject because of my expertise and personal interaction.  I have a great rapport with students and parents alike. Many of my students I have had for years.  References are available upon request.
Please contact me regarding your tutoring requirements and schedule. I would love to be your tutor. I love working with kids and seeing them excel with confidence.

I love interacting with kids and seeing them understand all of the material, improve their grades, and have a good time learning.  I also enjoy the variety of working with students all over the country. I am grateful for the technical capability of working with students regardless of my location.

Catherine was superb to work with. She worked with my high school senior tutoring in AP Calculus AB. He started weak after spending a year and a half on line and she quickly helped him bring a starting D up to an A/B (he gets some As and some Bs and *might* finish the year with an A.) She was well prepared, worked with him to prioritize homework and exams, and was flexible to scheduling constraints. I cannot speak more highly of Catherine who is not only excellent at what she does, but is also a truly kind and good person.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

My current rate for tutoring math and science is around $60.00/hour for standard classes, with price variations depending on frequency, duration, and course level.

How did you get started teaching?

I started teaching computer science at the college level when I was in graduate school.  I tutored students at that time as well.  I homeschooled my own children while they were in middle school.  I started tutoring middle school and high school students in math and science while working full time as an engineer at AT&T.  I am now semi-retired — I just love tutoring kids.

What types of students have you worked with?

I’ve tutored all age groups from elementary school into college. I have tutored for over ten years. I love seeing kids understand the material, improve grades, and have a good time learning. Having tutored a lot in each subject, parents have told me often how well their children are learning the particular subject because of my expertise and personal interaction. I have a great rapport with students and parents alike. Many of my students I have had for years.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

I have direct communication with most students, dependent on parents' preferences. I love when students or parents text me when they do well on a test or quiz, and often events not related to math or science.  I believe that there is more to being tutored than just the lesson. I value my relationships with parents and students.
