About

I am a graduate of the Ivy League Dartmouth College. I majored in Biology and minored in Computer Science. I graduated as a salutatorian from Arcadia High School, and have taken numerous AP and honors courses, scoring 5's on all AP exams:

AP Biology, AP Physics C (both Mechanics and E&M), AP Chemistry, AP Calculus BC, AP Statistics, AP English Language, AP English Literature, AP US History, AP Comparative Government & Politics, and AP Spanish Language

I have been in the honors track for:

Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, and English.

I have 12 years of experience in tutoring with students of all ages, from elementary school Common Core standards to college-level science classes. I would love to work with you to design a personalized program that fits your needs! My goals are to help each student not only understand the material, but be able to apply what they learn to future challenges. I structure my lessons to constantly review and reinforce old material and 'preview' new material so that students are never blind-sided by challenging topics, and learn to solve problems confidently. I believe my job is to guide a student to become an independent learner, someone who can eventually succeed without me.

I specialize in tutoring math, science, and English composition. I also have experience teaching ESL with native Spanish and Mandarin speakers; I am fluent in English, Spanish, and Mandarin Chinese and have tutored while using a combination of English and other languages.

I also have some experience in reviewing college applications essays, and have done so in the past for many high school students who have gone on to Ivy League, UC, and other top tier schools.

I am willing to drive to the student's location or to meet at a local library or coffeehouse for lessons.

I look forward to meeting and working with you! Best wishes in all your studies.

Frequently asked questions

I usually like to start with a diagnostic test (or review an old test of the student's) to determine the topics that are most difficult. Then, we can target our time and effort to tackling these challenges.

I have been a tutor for 12 years, from middle school to post-college. As a graduate of a rigorous public school and the Ivy League Dartmouth College, I understand how tough schoolwork can be and how much of a difference a good tutor can make.

I charge $30/hour.

This rate includes the cost of travel to and from the meeting location. Any additional supplies (such as textbooks) that the student asks me to purchase will be extra.

I first started as a middle school peer tutor, and continued as a tutor because I love to see that "Click" moment where a student understands a concept that once troubled them.

I have worked with students from all ages, elementary school to college students to those returning to school after years in the workplace.
I have helped students bring their grades from D's and F's to A's and B's as well as assisted high-achievers in advanced placement or honors courses.

Ask your tutor questions!

How does the tutor prepare for a lesson?
I always ask my students to take pictures of their homework, or at least give me a heads up on the topics they would like to work on so that I may prepare before the lesson even begins.

What would you like to get out of tutoring?

Is this a short-term review session, or are you looking for a regular tutoring schedule?

Where would you feel comfortable meeting?
I usually suggest a quiet, local coffee shop because of the free Wifi, and available food/drink if we need a break.
