About

My favorite things about tutoring include getting to know the student, their academic and career aspirations and the benchmarks to those goals, and the humble opportunity of me being a small part in that journey. I love to see when a tough concept is mastered by my students, this is the greatest joy of a tutor! I foster a comfortable and causal environment in my tutoring but of course in a professional and respectful manner. I strive to always be honest, to push my students, and to encourage them to try hard and not give up.

I tutored two consecutive summers in a professional setting at Cape Fear Community College, tutoring in various subjects ranging from elementary mathematics all the way up to Calulus 3 as well as in physics. I also was a Supplemental Instructor (SI) there and was assigned to a calculus 1 class and a physics class.

I have my B.S. in Nuclear Engineering from NC State and was, but put on hold, a Masters degree in Nuclear Engineering at this same school. I have industry experience as a nuclear engineer at GE within the Edison Program.

Frequently asked questions

I first, briefly, asses my students learning style preference as to most effectively approach my tutoring with them. As an artist in the Wilmington and my love for drawing and as a natural visual learner my self, my particular strengths are tutoring in the visual style, drawing out either an illustration to help explain the mathematical concept at hand or the scenarios found in application of the concepts, of course after collecting and organizing the problem statement data provided.

My education in Nuclear Engineering (the engineering degree which requires an extensive use of calculus and requiring the highest level of math than any other engineering field of study demonstrates my knowledge and understanding of higher mathematics and especially as it pertains to applying it to engineering applications.

My standard of tutoring is very simple and is a flat rate of $20/hr (at this moment starting off) and a fixed value of $2.5 for commute if in person travel to my students's location of choice.

I am not a teacher, but a tutor, and got started between my freshman and sophomore year of my engineering study as a student. I loved the subjects of calculus and physics in particular that I wanted to share that with others to help them to both master the subjects and to also find a great appreciation for the subjects!

I have mostly worked with students going into STEM fields but have also worked with a few business students to a lesser degree.
