The Opportunity Pipeline
About
A native of North Carolina, I earned my BA from Wake Forest University and my NC teaching license in 2013. All through college, I worked as a tutor and tutored privately before college since 2008. My tutoring experiences span from pre-kindergarten through junior and senior level college mathematics and history courses, as well as adult education.
My first year, I taught in a small charter school where I functioned as a kindergarten teacher and was also responsible for occasionally teaching grades 1 to 2. For the past three years, I have worked at a low- performing elementary school teaching all subjects in 5th grade. During my time at my school, we exceeded growth within the subjects I taught and were removed from the low- performing list in NC. My End of Grade passage rate is 88% for math and science and 66% in reading for 5th grade.
Most recently, I have been working daily with elementary students who have high social and emotional needs and created an after- school tutoring program in the communities which we serve.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When initially workign with a new student, I perform a pre- assessment in order to find their strengths and weaknesses. I use this data to create a comprehensive scope and sequence to meet the needs of the student, but also augment their strengths.
Next, I assess their learning styles because I understand all students do not learn in the same manner. By knowing the way in which the student learns, I find the best strategies to help the grasp the concepts.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bacherlor's of Arts degree from Wake Forest University in Sociology with a concentration in education. In addition to my degree, I have an elementary education teacher's license.
Outside of my license and degree, I have been trained extensively in inquiry based learning, close reading, and elementary word problem sense making.
