Patty's Prime Tutoring
About
I'm Patty and I have a passion for helping students understand and excel at math. I believe everyone has the ability to do well at math; they just need the right instruction. I have been teaching math for over 15 years from early elementary math to calculus at the college level. I have a BS in Mechanical Engineering and can also tutor in sciences and other STEM areas.
I love helping students see that they can understand math and do well at it.

How did you get started teaching?
I started homeschooling my children when they were young because they weren't ready for full day academic instruction. I found that I loved sharing my knowledge and helping others succeed. When my children went to college, I started working with other students at the local community college and high school helping them achieve their goals.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with young children through adults. In recent years, most of my work has been with teenagers and young adults.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I had a student who was failing her pre-calculus algebra class her third time through the class when we started tutoring. She had lost all confidence in her math abilities. It was wonderful working with her, helping her see that she could understand, watching her confindence grow, and seeing her finish the class with a B+.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure that the teacher understands your background and what areas you feel weak in. Solidifying the basics before trying to add on the more complex is the way to build a solid understanding.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
They should think about what their goals are. Do they just want to pass the class, get an A, take their understanding to a deeper level? Their goals will determine the approach and guide the tutor's sessions.
