Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I get to know the student and their learning style. The most important thing with new or any student is to listen to their concerns, make notes, plan and build a tutoring platform that will be most effective for the student.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been teaching since February 2005. I started teaching because of early issues with my youngest son, which I explained later. I have a God-given gift with children and being able to teach. I have had lots of training and schooling and have done tons of research to be able to service individual children with and without disabilities.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Yes, I have pricing for grades and subjects. We factor in the quality, matter, estimated planning, and teaching.
Example:
2nd grade, Reading- They have issues with phonics and some letter recognition, causing them to learn the basics to read on their grade level.
We have a few options to consider; not only do we want to work with letter recognition, but we also want to cover the sounds with phonics with a bit of blending. We introduce reading through a reading platform that will read to the student as they follow along. They will build their level to where they will listen, read back to the reading site, and answer questions that will also develop their reading comprehension.
How did you get started teaching?
I have been in the corporate world for years in accounting. Early years with my youngest son being misdiagnosed with ADHD/ADD. Fighting the school system and doctors, I pulled my son out of public when homeschooling was frowned upon; I began to take classes to educate myself to be a teacher from Pre-K through 6th grade. I have continued my education as of today and will always be involved in education because I would not want any parent to experience the horror I did with my son. He is the reason why I do what I do.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with many students with ADD/ADHD, Speech Impairment, and Dyslexia. I don't feel there is a child I could not educate with research, heart, and willingness to educate the children who need it.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I am fond of all the students I have helped in the past who are now family. I spend quality time with my student's birthday parties, weddings, new babies.....I can't just pick one because I have been blessed to have many.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I will help you be what you want to be through your education. Your education is important to me, and I will always see you through. We are in this together.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
I don't think there are any particular questions. If a student is brave enough to ask for help in today's society, there isn't any; they should not be able to ask concerning their education.
