Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I will ask many questions to figure out what the student knows and what they do not know about the subject. Then I will continually strengthen their weak areas within the subject matter. I will use many tactics with the student until I know they know the subject matter. I will continue to the next chapter once I know that they absolutely know the material. This means that I will continually ask questions to guide the student to the correct answer.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a licensed Professional Engineer and a licensed Electrical Contractor. I am currently attending the MBA program at UNC Pembroke. My expected graduation date is the Spring of 2024.
Also, I tutored at UNC-Charlotte from 2000 to 2004. During this period, I tutored in classroom settings (20 – 60 people) and as an individual tutor.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Tutoring on-line: $30 per hour
Tutoring in person: $45 per hour
Tutoring in a group session: $60 per hour
Note: Tutoring in person or a group session will be in a public setting {preferably library}.
How did you get started teaching?
I started tutoring in order to strengthen engineering skills. I strongly believe the best way to know the material is to teach the material to someone else.
What types of students have you worked with?
High School Students, College Students, and Working Professionals.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I enjoy mentoring entry level engineers, technicians, and utility operatators.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I recommend the student to know the fundamentals {Arithmitic, Geometry, and Algebra}. If you do not know the fundamentals then you will have a difficult time to make progress. I will make sure the student know the fundamentals before moving into the next subject.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Are you willing to learn?
Do you really want to know the material?
If you answer Yes, then I can help you out. If you answer No, then you need to find another tutor. I will not provide spoon feed the answers.
