Andie's Math Tutoring (Asheville, NC)
About
I have been a professional tutor for over 2 years, but I've been tutoring my younger siblings since I was 11. At 17 years old, I started an after-school study group for the AP classes I was in, and everyone who attended regularly managed to score a 4 on their exam. I've spent most of my life finding new ways to explain difficult subjects, and I truly love what I do.
I love having the opportunity to take a subject that is generally viewed as a looming horror for students everywhere and break it down into something simple. It's nice being able to make school just a little less stressful for my students.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I always start with a free intake call with the student and a parent if they choose to be involved. This helps me determine where the student is struggling and put together a plan, and it gives the family an opportunity to make sure I'm the right fit for the student.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have an Associate's in Science from AB Tech, and will be a student at UNCA starting in January.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I have a sliding scale fee starting at $50/hour, but I believe every student has the right to succeed, and am happy to work around monetary differences on a case-by-case basis.
How did you get started teaching?
I have 7 younger siblings who have all needed my help time and time again. I discovered at a young age that I have a knack for helping others grasp difficult concepts.
What types of students have you worked with?
I've worked with 3rd graders preparing for their first EOG's all the way up to 30-year-olds getting ready to receive their GED. I primarily work with middle and high schoolers.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I had one student who was really into the anime Haikyuu (the volleyball anime). They talked me into watching it and I loved it as well. We spent our Trigonometry unit working on word problems I'd written about characters in the show to keep them interested in the subject and it worked!
