What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I work to keep an open and flowing conversation in every session. Relating new concepts or approaches to problems to consistent conversation and analogy helps establish additional connections to information and enhance memory.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Masters of Science in Curriculum and Instruction in Inclusive Education, over 20 years of experience teaching in traditional and non-traditional education environments and have specifically been tutoring for the last 7 years.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I offer my services on a sliding scale. My average rate is $50 an hour which acts as the presumed rate unless we discuss rates further. Paying above this rate if able helps me work with individuals who would not otherwise be able to afford a tutor. I will make no inquiry into anyone’s financial situation and provide the same level of service regardless of chosen rate. Any future changes in rate will require a new agreement 24 hours prior to a session. The same is true for cancellations.
If the payment amount you decide upon must change please notify me as soon as possible.
How did you get started teaching?
My first teaching environment was actually teaching Snowboarding at a small resort near my home town. From there I tutored Math and Science for a local community school and later my university. Those two environments cemented my desire to become a teacher.
