Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I can offer immediate help, but it's best that I am contacted 24 hours in advance so I can prepare specifically for the student. Please send me a sample test or assignment.
First 20 minutes online is free.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Price is US$24 to $36 per hour, depending on my time spent travelling or preparing worksheets/questions for the student. May be negotiable if long-term. The price comes with lesson plans and homework.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with many high school and university students, including a blind person. I am currently working with someone who has a cognitive disorder.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Usually, short and frequent sessions are best to retain learning and receive help promptly. For example, if you are willing to pay for 2 hours of tutoring per week, one good way is to have 40 minutes sessions three times a week. In addition, to make the best of the tutoring sessions, the student should update the tutor on his or her progress before hand and come with questions prepared.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Have you looked through available online (free) resources in your subject? Do you have a buddy with whom you can study together?
