I tutor students from grades K-8 in language arts and math. I also work with other subjects. I believe that every person can succeed in academics. I have taken this belief with me into the classroom as a certified elementary teacher. All of the students who I have worked with have made significant improvements on their standardized tests.
I have been teaching for the past 23 years and I have worked in the school system as a teacher's assistant, substitute teacher and a classroom teacher. I started my own tutoring service 7 years ago and I have helped students from grades K-12 with their academics.
I enjoy seeing students gain the confidence to succeed academically. I believe that students who struggle benefit more from one on one instruction than whole class instruction. While tutoring, I am able to get to know a student personally and this helps me to find the right strategy to motivate them to succeed.
I feel that education is important because it has enabled me to obtain gainful employment and broaden my mental horizons. By reaching students through education, I can not only improve their earning potential but I can also inspire them to become "life-long" learners.

I remember tutoring a student in Inkster, MI ten years ago. When I began working with this student, he was a 6th grade student reading at a 3rd grade level. Two years later, he read on his current 8th grade level and was on the honor roll.
I would advise students to look for someone who is patient and who has experience working in the schools.
