About
In 2000, I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Oakland University and a triple minor in Language Arts, Spanish and Science. With my 20+ years of diverse teaching experience, I have created hundreds of engaging lessons and differentiated instruction to both children and adults in the United States and abroad. Working alongside various Special Education staff to meet IEP (Individualized Education Plan) goals, I have educated individuals of varying capacities, having special needs and needing individualized instruction.
Colleagues, parents and students have said that I possess a gift for creating a positive rapport with individuals of all ages and backgrounds. I believe it is important to connect with each of my students in a personal way. We start by creating goals together and I assess their levels in a fun unassuming way. As a tutor, I am consistently supplying my students with feedback and encouraging them to do their personal best. I have patience to empower students to think for themselves, an eagerness to motivate them to meet their goals and the commitment to hold them accountable for themselves.
Every student is different and I enjoy getting to know them individually one-on-one. I tailor lessons specifically designed to each student's needs and empower them to reach their goals. Being very organized with my lesson plans, notes and follow-up has been a key to my successes. Another key is communication. I believe communication is vital to understanding, learning and progress and therefore find technology is the best tool to maintain communication and organization. Having used computers my entire life, I am extremely proficient with technology and using various educational platforms like EdModo for lessons and communication, IXL for practice of learning standards and just started learning Google Classroom with a current high school student I tutor. I have adapted my in-person tutoring with him and his siblings to Zoom last March.
