STEM And Math Tutoring

In college I was in a program that required me to go up to calculus 4. Certain aspects of those classes I found difficult so I got myself a tutor to help with those portions and to keep me on the right track. I had first hand experience being on the other side, to be the one being tutored. I know what techniques work and what didn’t and how specific it is to each individual student. I found that you know the most about a subject when you can teach it to someone else. I think it’s important that kids are shown proper techniques and ways to approach problems, and then they learn to teach it as well. Also, knowing the “why” when learning math, makes it easier to retain that information and to solve similar problems down the road. It’s vital to be patient when teaching. Every student learns at a different rate and it hurts their progress when they feel like they aren’t doing well or disappointing someone. I have a degree in Industrial Engineering and a minor in Math and Supply Chain Management.

I’ve always loved math and have always loved teaching. Seeing the smile on a student’s or a friend’s face when teaching them that they CAN actually solve the problem is the most rewarding thing. I think it’s important that students be in a safe and non judgmental environment when learning math or sciences so they don’t feel self conscious about learning at their own pace and in their own way. I used to tutor my friends in high school when we were all in the same math class. I have always loved doing it and to hear them come back to me and thank me because they got a good great is something I will always remember.
