About

Hi! My name is Logan. I have spent the last six years working as a math teacher. I spent my first two years teaching high school math in Ohio (Algebra 2 and AP Statistics) and have spent the last four years teaching 8th grade students (8th grade math standards and Algebra 1). I have a master's in Education Policy and am beginning a PhD in education in August of 2020.

I love working with students to develop a deep understanding of why math processes work. I am passionate about helping students build their math self-esteem and learn how to be independent mathematical thinkers.

Frequently asked questions

I always start by finding student goals. I want to understand what types of supports my students need and then establish a plan to help them reach those goals. All of my sessions are focused around helping students understand how to complete problems by understanding why math concepts work the way that they do.

I have six years experience teaching in middle school and high school math classrooms. I have taught 8th grade math, Algebra I, Algebra II, and AP Statistics. I have also tutored students in Geometry and Pre-Calculus. I have a master's degree in education policy and am beginning a PhD in education in August 2020.

I charge $40/hour for in person sessions and $30/hour for online sessions.

I became a teacher through an alternative certification program due to my interest in careers that involve helping others.

As a teacher, I have experience teaching students of all backgrounds in a general education setting. I have also worked extensively with special education students in small group and summer school settings.

As you are looking for a tutor, make sure that you are finding someone that can help you discover why concepts work and how they connect to other mathematical skills you already have. Mathematical concepts build on each other. You do not want to focus on just learning one skill to check off a box, but rather want to find a way to understand how all concepts interconnect.

What problems am I struggling with? How are these problems connected? What do I already know how to do? At what point do I get "stuck"?
