Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to meet with the student and family to get an idea of the needs, wants, and expectations of the family. I want to always make sure I am the right fit before beginning to work with a new family.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Bachelor's Degree in Special Eduction, Goucher College (2013)
Master's Degree in Human Development, University of MD (2017)
Elementary Special Education Teacher (2013-2017)
Middle School Special Education Teacher (2017-Present)
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Minimum $50/ hour, additional if I am asked to provide my own resources for the student
How did you get started teaching?
I have wanted to be a teacher since I was a young child. The path to bringing me to Math and Special Education was a bit longer, but I am so happy where I have ended up.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked both with students with and without special education needs from ages 5-14. I typically work with students who struggle to understand grade level material, but have provided enrichment services to students working above grade level as well.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Little moments of success in my classroom are always my favorite memories. When something just "clicks" for a student, no matter how large or small the accomplishment, I think it is something worth celebrating.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure you just don't focus on the paper application and credentials. Students are always more successful when they have a positive relationship with their teacher. Make sure you have a chance for student and teacher to meet. If there is not mutual trust and understanding, the student/ tutor relationship is not a good fit.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What do you want to accomplish as a result of entering a tutoring relationship? How many hours a week are you willing to devote to studying? Are you willing to keep pushing when things get difficult? Are you comfortable asking questions to your tutor when you are confused? Will you keep studying beyond the designated work session times?
