About
I am a tutor with 8+ years experience covering all K-12 math and science material as well as undergraduate coursework in mathematics, chemistry, computer science, and rudimentary biology and physics. I am also available for flute and bassoon instruction. I have held tutoring and teaching assistant roles during my time at the University of Richmond (BS Chemistry, Comp. Sci.) and during my time with iD Tech Virtual Tech Camps (ages 7-18).
In my experience, students always have the willpower and knowledge to work with their material but are held back by a lack of confidence or a few important details in the coursework. My approach is to not solve a students homework problems and show them how I did it; rather, I ask leading questions that help to establish 1.) what the student knows, 2.) how that knowledge can be used to solve novel problems, and 3.) what are good strategies for problem solving. Nothing brings me more happiness than seeing the moment when the details "click" in a student's head. My approach is personalized to each student, and I also keep my communication with parents/teachers open about the student's progress.
