About
I was always meant to be a teacher, but I followed the path of an Actuary. I have always tutored since college and currently am Chairman of Towson Actuarial Science and Risk Management Advisory Board. I freely help out my daughter and her friends with math, business, AP Government, and history. I look forward to meeting and learning how I can help. The first 30 minutes are FREE as it gives us a chance to meet and see if this will work. Suggest online or public library, but am open to other locations.
Math and sciences in general are all about the world around us. Seeing a student have a EUREKA moment is what I live for. Being able to help someone go from uncertainty to confidently explaining is a great joy. Once you learn a science well enough, you can artistically apply it.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Meet to see what is necessary, develop a plan with committment from parents and student, then execute and patiently work through understanding of concepts. Depending on comprehension, adjust as necessary.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Fellow of Society of Actuaries, Bachelors of Science in Actuarial Science, lifetime of teaching and learning, 20+ years in consulting and applying actuarial science
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
First 30 minutes free, then negotiable rate thereafter. Also depends on frequency and availability. That is, the further out we plan, the better the price.
How did you get started teaching?
Tutoring students at Student Help Center in college.
What types of students have you worked with?
All types from elementary school to college.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
The eureka moment of understanding what exponents are and how to manipulate them. Seeing my daughters face after puzzling over why she could not get the right answer. Then, after understanding how you can manipulate the exponents and how it just turns into easy addition and multliplication, she blazes through the rest of the problems with confidence.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Mathematics is a language. Once you become familiar with it's definitions, you are empowered and the world makes more sense when seen through math. Assure that you are comfortable asking (talking) with your teacher. You first must be on the "same page" in your mother tongue (English). Then, you can start down the path of this new language of mathematics.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Ask themselves what they will commit and what their goals are. Then, ask the teacher if that level of committment is realistic to reach that goal. Once expectations are set, then it comes down to a relationship. That is, can you listen and talk with this teacher? Any small annoyances, may compound and prevent learning.
