I have just graduated with a degree and certified to teach Special Education from the University of Maryland. I have tutored for several years and have really enjoyed teaching each of those students. Over this past year, I have taken over a Special Education first and second-grade classroom and have learned a lot of many important skills. I can't wait to continue teaching and help other students succeed!

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
With a new student, I first like to get to know what the student enjoy's to do in their free time, their grade, and where they are academically. To see where they are academically, I will provide math equations or leveled texts to determine the students levels. From there, I would begin to tutor the students in the area that they need support.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have just graduated with a B.S. in Elementary Special Education from the University of Maryland. When in this program, I have tutored and taught many students.
How did you get started teaching?
I began to be involved with organizations that assisted students with learning disabilities when I was younger and I wanted to continue to make that into a career.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with typically developing students and children with differential needs.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Over the past two months, I began to teach a student sight words. When we first began, the student was only able to identify 6 out of the 20 sight words, but by the end, the student was able to read 17 of the 20 words.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for someone who is dedicated and wants to help the students learn new aspects of math and English.
