About

I founded The READY Academy to facilitate my passion for STEM and share my joy of learning with others. I currently works as a teacher and volunteer EMT in Montgomery County, MD. Prior to this I worked with the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research’s Teaching Lab. I developed curriculum for the Gains in the Education of Mathematics and Science (GEMS) summer program and consulted with local public schools in Montgomery County and Prince Georges County to introduce more project-based learning into the classroom.

These experiences made me realize the need for equipping children with the knowledge, skills and attributes needed to succeed in a world that is becoming more integrated with technology. Providing students with experiences in STEM and the opportunity to demonstrate competence gives them the potential to change their lives and the lives of others. My goal is to help you use your academics as a tool for actualizing your career goals.

I enlisted the help of the Ready Academy to tutor me in Math over the summer. Omari is a knowledgeable math tutor. He is soft spoken, tolerant, and kind. He spends the time needed to ensure that the student understands the math problem and how to solve it. Without the tutoring that I received from the Ready Academy, I know for sure that I would have failed my class. Omari tutoring helped me to pass! I would recommend the Ready Academy to other students who may be stressed about Math. Give the Ready Academy a try, you will be happy you did.

Omari is an amazing tutor, professional, patient, and punctual. Hes been tutoring my son in Algebra for the last couple of months. With his help, my son has been able to understand and keep up with his math concepts and studies being taught in class. Omari works with you until you understand the concepts. He has a very organized and understandable approach to teaching math, filling in the gaps in my sons knowledge.

    Frequently asked questions

With over 16 years of teaching experience, I have learned how to help students see where their main issues are and help them overcome those issues. This is done is a supportive environment that helps them become independent problem solvers. With new students we focus on emotionally appropriate methods for recognizing academic deficits and positive responses to improving those areas. Our main goal is to reduce the need for additional tutoring.

I started teaching as a college summer job working at Walter Reed Army Institute of Research while studying engineering. I fell in love with the process of helping students find joy in learning and in the challenge of acquiring new skills. I then decided to become a full time teacher and continue to enjoy the work.
I have worked with all students. My background has allowed me to work with elementary, middle and high school aged student. I have also tutored college students and adults. I have worked with affluent students and students in poverty. I also spent a year of student teaching at a school that specialized in working with students in special education programs. From all of this I have learned that some aspects of teach can be generalized while others cannot. This is key to finding success with an individual student - we start with a foundational base of proven methods and then tailor it to meet the individual needs of the student.
As an active teacher in Montgomery County, I am fortunate to work in the Engineering and Computer Science Department and we recently concluded our Engineering Symposium where high school students presented year long projects to professional engineers. It was a real joy to watch the students take pride in their own work.
Look at the upfront cost and other sales tricks. A good teacher/tutor should aim to work themselves out of a job - help you get better at independent learning. If they are trying to lock you in to subscriptions, long contracts or expensive diagnostics, find someone else - like The READY Academy!
What are your goals? Better grades, understanding the material, filling in gaps, upcoming test. Each of these involve different priorities and tutoring is very restricted in time. Having a clear focus can significantly improve the outcomes. Students should also inquire about where the tutor/teacher will get their lesson materials from? You should have access to any materials used in your lessons.
